March Earnings Report – Madness!!

March Madness!

The month March has come and gone.  So you know its time to release my monthly highlights and month end review.  The month of March was definitely a breakout month for me on quite a few fronts.  As I’ve posted before, I’ve been working on both increasing my revenue through various mobile ventures while also attempting to diversify into other business realms.  Well March was a month where the rubber hit the road and I started to spread my tentacles (literally and figuratively) into various pots.

For starters, I had my virtual worker from the Philippines, John, create a set of celebrity themed wallpaper apps (think Beyonce, Jessica Alba, and Rihanna to name a few) and place them up on Google Play.  These apps allowed Android users to customize the background of their phones with their choice of celebrity.  On the flip side, the apps have embedded source code that pops up advertisements in the users notification window.  Each time a user clicks on the notification, I get paid :-).  I know its rather crude and many people don’t like push notifications like these, but its a revenue stream I wanted to work on expanding and things seem to be working at the moment.  For the month of March, Leadbolt, the push notication company I’m using paid me out $136.36 for serving their ads within my wallpaper apps.  Last time I checked I had a total of close to 15k installs between these apps.  Not bad for a few really simple redumentary apps.

Next up, I’ve been wanting to test out a bunch of new mobile ad networks but I’ve been a little gun shy with my testing.  Last thing I want to do is spend a bunch of cash doing a mobile media buy and little to nothing comes out of it.  So a friend of mine convinced me to try out a few “unknown” / “off track” networks that he’d already been having success with.  I was still a little hestitant at first, but I figured what the heck, I’d take his word on things and try it out.  Now for obvious reasons, I’m not going to list the network, however, I will say I was pleasently suprised with both the quality and the cheapness of the ads on their network.   In a most cases, I was paying less than $0.005 a click.  !!!UNHEARD OF THESE DAYS!!!! The cheap clicks coupled with some really high converting international mobile offers really put a smile on my face this month.  Although this network was really lacking in customer service and did not have many options for you to send them payment other than direct wires, the sheer massive amounts of traffic they had more than made up for those short comings.

March Click Report

Another milestone I reached this month was a direct result of the new traffic network I’ve been utilizing.  Because the traffic was sooo cheap, I was able to hit an all time level for the number of clicks I sent to my Imobitrax server within a month’s time frame. For the month of March, can you believe I pushed over 1.8 MILLION clicks through my Virtual Private Server (hosted by –  quick shout out to them).  To some this may not seem like alot, but for someone who averages between 50k to 60k clicks a month, this was an EXPLOSION of new traffic.

My final highlight for the month of March was that I enrolled into an online course that teaches you how to source products from overseas and sell them on Amazon.  As stated before, I’ve always wanted to sell physical products, but could never figure how how to do it efficiently while making a profit at the same time.  I’ve already completed 4 weeks of the 8 week course and I’m really stoked about what I’ve learned so far.  However, learning material without putting any of it into practice is a waisted effort.  This being said I’m in the talks with 4 Chinese manufacturers who will be developing a product I plan to sell on Amazon in the next 4 to 5 weeks.

With all this being said, its time to look at the numbers for the month of March.

March Revenue

As you can see, there are a couple of things about this chart that stick out.  Firstly, I’ve started testing out a couple of new mobile affiliate networks.  Everbadge and Offermobi, although not new networks in the mobile space, are not utilized much by me in my day to day advertising.  This changed when both networks got a hold of a couple of new mobile gaming apps I wanted to test.  Although the campaigns turned out to be duds, the test was a great reminder not to forget to cycle these networks into rotation after while.  Another thing that may stick out from this chart is the fact that Revived Media’s revenue spiked rather shortly and steeply.  This was mainly do to the newly discovered traffic source.  This was definitely a nice B-day suprise (my birthday is in March).  I’m definitely looking for a repeat of this next month, however, I’m not gonna get my hopes too high.  All and all total revenue for the month was $32,025.26

March Expenses

As with a rise in Revenues, there is also a rise in expenses. Most notably the increase in spending in my new ad network which amounted to $3,321.42 and a purchase of the Amazon Course – Amazing Selling Machine for 3,497.00.  A bunch of people have been asking me why did I spend so much for a course on Amazon selling?  Given the nature of the material and the fact that I could write the course off as a business expense, I looked at the purchase as a calculated risk with a greater upside potential.  In business you have to take risks and I like to take “smart ones”.   Overall, expenses for the month of March totaled $9,904.82.

March Profits

This finally brings me to my profit calculations for the month.   Again March was a break out month for my business.  At the end of the day, profits amounted to $22,120.74. However, once I account for taxes and tithes, this number comes down to $12,166.41 as my final take home.  Not bad!  This more than makes up for my short comings in the month of February and keeps me on track with my goal to pay off $30k of my mortgage by end of the year.

Mortgage Progress

As you can see, I’ve been blessed to reach 1/2 my goal by the end of the 3rd month of the year.  I pray I can maintain this momentum moving forward.  Speaking of moving forward.  I have a bunch of big plans for the month of April.  Most of them surround creating my own product to sell on Amazon.  This being said, a good majority of my time next month will be split between running the mobile business and running the Amazon business.   So I won’t be going out on a limb when I say that I dont expect my mobile revenues to be at the same level next month.  For now I think I feel comfortable setting a take home profit goal of around $6,000.00.

April Goals

Now that March has come and gone, its time to focus on my April Goals.  Although the list is not as extensive as I would typically have going into a new month, it is a very specific and focused set of goals.  Given that my time is very limited with what I have going on with family and my full time job, I had to really pair down my list and focus on the items that’ll give me the biggest bang for my attention.  I pray all goes well in the upcoming weeks.

Let me know what you guys think.  Post comments and questions below so we can start a dialogue.  If any of you have experience out there in mobile and Amazon marketing, I’d love to hear from you below.   Just post a comment and I’ll get back to ya.

Awesome job. Unbelievable to get traffic for .005 cpc. Even I could make money off of that deal.

wow, nice work Ollie. I am also in ASM right now(member “BrianL” in community forum). I got kind of tired of affiliate offers come and go, campaigns being copied, ecetera that I am trying to create a more real business so ASM was interesting to me. Never had the success in paid traffic like you have here. I tried mobile with OfferMobi zip/email submits on BuzzCity and blew through my money. Traffic is cheap there but didn’t work for me. Never really figured out how to run mobile correctly.

I can’t believe you are working fullltime, family, testing new paid traffic, and ASM. ……do you sleep 🙂

its hard to keep up, but I’m managing. Plus my wife has jumped on board to help me out with ASM. Also, I have a full time outsourced worker to help me do product research and develop apps for me. So I’m spreading the work around so I can SLEEP. I’ll ping you on the forum. Curious as to how things are working out with your product selections and manufacturers.

Nice Ollie! You are doing a great job! You talk a lot about Imgrind… has that community helped you that much?

I am looking forward to your future success! Blessings.

    Hey Tim,

Yes the community has helped me out a lot. I’ve met quite a few people there that were responsive for a lot of my success.

Have you encountered any copyright issues or takedown notices from GooglePlay with those celebrity wallpaper apps?

  7. chart3 says:

I’m also curious about Mel’s question above. Congrats on your success.

  8. admin says:

    Hey Chart,

I’ve not had an issue with this, but its something I’ll keep in mind going forward. Thanks for the insight Mel.

Wow this is a great read! I really like how you’ve documented this and also set goals. It’s a good insight and reminder of having clear goals, reviewing and adjusting. I currently work in an affiliate, so it was nice to know 70% of the names you mentioned. I also live in China, so sourcing things for me here is easier, just never thought about how I would sell it in the US. Thanks for the inspiration!
