January SEO Update – Big Accomplishment

6

Hello readers.  You may have been wondering why has their not been any updates for the month of January.  It’s not like me to go so long without posting any updates.  Well this month I’ve been fasting from computer usage after work hours. Our church does a corporate fast each year where we give up something important to us to focus on our relationship with God.  In my case, this basically translates into no computer usage after 5 p.m. each day.  I have about 2 more weeks left for the fast so you can expect more updates from me after it is over.  Since its 3:00 p.m. now, I’m technically not breaking my fast ;-) .

So this blog topic will be an update to how my SEO website has been fairing over the past month.  I was able to hire another outsourced link builder to create more backlinks to my website.  I’m pleased to announce that I was able to reach my goal (albeit temporarily) of getting all my keywords to the 1st page of Google.   This happened on January 21, 2011, only about 3 months after starting this project!!  I logged into my Google Analytics console and noticed that I started to receive more traffic all a sudden and when I checked my ranking report, it showed that all my keywords were on the 1st page of Google.  Now, these keywords were in a lower position ranging from Position 6 to Position 10, but were on the front page nevertheless. Very exciting!!  As you can see on the analytics display, I started to receive about 40 visitors a day to my site…it may now sound like alot, but its alot given my main keyword was still at the bottom of the 1st page.

Then a couple of days later something disheartening happened.  My rankings dropped from 1st page to pages 13 through 43!! My site fell victim to the elusive Google Dance again.  I felt like I’d gotten so close to the top of a mountain only to be kicked back down to the base.   Oh well, I still have till March 3rd to accomplish my goal and stay at the top of Google.  I’ve noticed that my rankings are already starting to recover.  Check the charts below and you can see that I’m inching back up towards page 1.  I have no doubt that I’ll be able to make it back there very soon.

Stay tuned for more updates.  I’ve been brainstorming new online business ventures and I will be excited to share them with you very very soon.  I just have to get my thoughts together and figure out how I’m gonna approach everything.

    Hey buddy…

nice work on the SEO stuff.. and i’m sure your site will be back up from the google dance soon… its normal i guess and keep doing it and you’ll jump even higher in no time

  2. I’ve started to adopt the same mentality of placing myself on a computer fast since I’ve noticed that it has literally spilled over into other aspects of my life — especially my spiritual life. I have pretty much set aside the amount of hours per day I work on the computer and any time after that it gets shut off.

    Yolanda,

I love your blog, I see that you are using the same rank tracking tool that I am to keep track of my rankings. (Rank Tracker from SEO toolbox). Yeah, as for the fast, yeah things were getting out of hand with balancing business and family and God….so I needed to reshuffle some responsibilities.

This continues to fascinate me. You’re doing an amazing job. How did the inflow vs. outflow net out this month? Do you think that the link building exercises are going to be something you can replicate later on other keywords with less effort / expense?

Oh wow!! I didn’t realize you came so close & got knocked down so far! Ouch! No worries though. Maybe the Google Dance is like a Ho-Down, which always comes back around!

BTW: Nice picture of the guy on the mountain. Where’d you get it? ;-)

Keep doing your thing man… persistence pays off.
And congratulations on sticking to the fast!
Ah – the number of “talks” my wife has had with me about being on the computer all the time…
    (sigh.) LOL!

I’ve gotten a lot better… but there’s is definitely still room for improvement.
One compromise is that I work really late hours, so that I can do family time, but still get my work done.

Also – I try to do my prayer + bible reading first thing in the AM, before I start doing computer work.
That’s been going really well over the past few months.
(Working on reading the entire Bible – did a third of it last year, and plan to finish it this year.)

Great work! Let me know when we can do that interview, money!
I just interviewed PAT FLYNN (SmartPassiveIncome.com).

I KNOW you want your interview to come up right after HIS! LOL!

(He’s big into iPhone apps too… if I get tight with him, I’d love to connect you both.)
